Modi used me and my sister for his politics: CM Omar Abdullah

JAMMU: Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister disputed Jammu Kashmir lambasted at Indian Prime Ministerial candidate of Bhartya Janata Party (BJP) Narendra Modi for his comment that women in Jammu Kashmir did not enjoy equal rights.
“He (Modi) very conveniently used me and my sister as examples to illustrate a point that has no bearing on truth. Either he lies or is ill informed,” said Omar abdullah in his tweeted message after the Modi’s rally in Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu Kashmir.
“I challenge him or any of his minions to reproduce verbatim the section of Art 370 that determines the J&K state subject law,” Omar added in his tweeted message.
Replying to Modi the Chief Minister disputed Jammu Kashmir blasted, “no Mr Modi, tourism isn’t suffering here. our tourists are not going to Himachal Pradesh. It is the reverse now but why should the facts bother you. 1.4 million tourists last year and we have crossed one million tourists this year in to the Valley alone. Modi needs pre-speech fact check,” Omar said and also posted an aerial shot of the venue to puncture the claims of BJP that 45,000 people attended Modi’s rally.
“I put the photograph because it’s a small stadium with lots of open space visible. Estimates range from 25,000 to 45,000. You decide? ” he challenged Modi.
Earlier, Narrinder Modi, the future candidate for Prime Minister from BJP delivered a speech in Jammu and said that women did not have the same rights as men in Jammu Kashmir, citing the example of Omar and his sister Sara, who is married to Congress leader Sachin Pilot. Modi said that it should be debated whether the constitutional provision has been beneficial for the state or not.
Modi was addressing his first rally in Jammu after being named the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate and said said his party wanted a discussion on various aspects of the issue. He echoed views expressed by BJP President Rajnath Singh, who earlier even told the ‘Lalkar’ rally that if Article 370 proved to be beneficial, his party would stand by the measure. Women had not been given equal rights in the state of Jammu & Kashmir unlike in other parts of the country, he added.
“If Omar (Abdullah) married outside Kashmir, his rights of being a citizen remain whereas his sister Sara loses the right for the same. Is this not discrimination against the women in the state,” he asked, while referring to the Chief Minister’s family.
Modi accused the Kashmir Government for corruption saying the Prevention of Corruption Act is applicable everywhere other than Jammu and Kashmir. “For 60 years they talked about separate state (autonomy) but what did people get? Nothing and there is no accountability also…In the name of separate state, they encouraged separatism.
“It would have been better if they focused on creating a super state.Tourism is suffering here. Tourists are going to Himachal Pradesh”, Modi said, adding that a lot of films were shot here. Why could Jammu and Kashmir not get a film institute? Sadly they are not interested in development and progress.
Speaking on the “discrimination” against the female folk, Modi said this is not an issue between Hindus and Muslims but a matter concerning 12.5 million people of the state. “I want to ask those who advocate humanity why their lips are sealed over the denial of rights to female. Why they are silent over it?” he asked.
