Mangla destroys culture, civilization of Dadiyal: Afsar Shahid

ROCHDALE: The land of Dadiyal has honor of giving birth to great personalities like Maulvi Abdul Haq, Abdul Khaliq Ansari, Peer Ali Jan Shah, Chaudhry Muhammad Zaman and Chaudhry Muhammad Yousuf, who keep the name of area very high through their contribution, said Chaudhry Afsar Shahid MLA and AJK Minister for Auqaf.

“I have not inherited politics but I have honor to represent this area. My father had a dream that his son go for higher education and today where I am is because of parents and teachers”, Afsar Shahid Advocate said while addressing a reception given by Babu Ali Asghar, President Liberal Democrats North West and Javed Mughal.

“I came in politics with the solid aim of making change in politics, which will serve coming generations”, he said, adding opponents are making negative propaganda against him.

“I have lost first election and in second I was defeated after rigging by 194 votes, but even then I felicitated the winning candidate” Afsar Shahid said, adding he is desirous not to do anything which can make my family and friends ashamed.

Afsar Shahid said Mangla Dam has caused huge dent to rich culture, civilization and traditions of Dudiyal. “Money spent on this project was enough to get electricity and water from other sources than construction of dam”, he said, adding Peoples Party Government put pressure on WAPDA to implement the project.

He said land record in Dudiyal is being computerized and before next election Patwari culture will be abolished from the area, which would help end the land disputes and all information will be available on website. “I have made attendance of administrative and education officers compulsory in the area and has finished my personal protocol”, he added.

He said illiteracy is a big evil and main cause of lot of other evils to eradicate illiteracy Rs 360 million are being spent to build new school buildings for schools and colleges and provide all modern facilities.

The AJK Minister said all the appointments and postings are being done on merit, though it has made voters angry. Present government is working hard for welfare of common people and development projects are being completed quickly to give relief to people, he claimed.

He said people of Rochdale should be proud of work he had done in Kashmir because this is his second home.

Earlier, the function was started by recitation of Holy Quran by Qasim Aslam, while Councilor Wazir Shah conducted the stage and he welcome AJK Minister Afsar Shahid in Rochdale.

Babu Ali Asghar who was host and presided over the function welcomed Afsar Shahid and lauded his political vision and his services for people as AJK Minister.

Babu Ali Asghar said the dictators have polluted the political atmosphere of Pakistan, while elected governments have used their efforts to strengthen Pakistan. It was Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who made Pakistan a nuclear power, while Ayub Khan committed worst rigging to defeat Fatima Jinnah and Yehya Khan has slashed country into two.

Today it is need of hour that Pakistani nation should be united to bring the country out from present situation, he said.

Addressing the gathering Councilor Ali Adalat said there is dire need to create awareness among masses regarding Kashmir, as identity of Kashmiris is very important issue. He said today there are so many councilors in Rochdale the credit goes to Babu Ali Asghar.

Councilor Aftab Hussain said Afsar Shahid is his teacher in politics. Today where Afsar Shahid stands is because of his work for Kashmir.

Councilor Iftikhar Ahmed said Afsar has proved himself in ideological politics and has reached to power corridors to attain his desired goals. He said for freedom people of AJK has to rise above tribalism.

Former Mayor of Rochdale Zulfiqar Ali said Kashmiri people need guidance and leadership for leading the national liberation movement towards a logical conclusion.

Liaqat Ali, Councilor Ghulam Hussain also addressed the function while Chaudhry Bashir Ratvi President Muslim Conference Britain, Chaudhry Muhammad Akram, Ali Sarwar, Chaudhry Muhammad Aslam, Chaudhry Muhammad Ajaib, Chaudhry Nisar, Chaudhry Rifat Hussain Chaudhry Kala Khan participated in the function.
