BOLTON: Like Kashmiris in both sides of divided Jammu Kashmir and round the globe, Kashmiri community in North of England has marked January 5, as right of self-determination day for Kashmiri nation, which was attended by members of both the houses of British Parliament, candidates for European Parliament, trade union leaders, Kashmiri and Pakistani councilors who represented more than 15 cities of North.
The Kashmir Conference was organized by Right of Self Determination Movement (SDM) at Bolton Town Hall which was presided over by Vice Chairman SDM Amjid Hussain Mughal, while SDM Chairman Raja Najabat Hussain was among guests of honor.
Prominent among the speakers were British Peer and renowned community leader Lord Nazir Ahmed of Rodham, Parliamentarian from South East Barrister Yasmeen Qureshi, President British Trade Union Congress Muhammad Taj, European Parliament candidate of Labour Party from West councilor Afzal Khan, Advisor to AJK Premier Sardar Abdul Rehman Khan, Welfare attaché of Pakistan Consulate Manchester Qazi Sajid, Lord Mayor of Manchester Councilor Naeem ul Hassan, Councilor Akhtar Zaman, Councilor Muhammad Ayub, Councilor Muhammad Iqbal from Bolton, Councilor Nasreen Ali and Councilor Shaukat Ali from Manchester, Councilor Taimur Tariq, Councilor Shaheena Haroon from Berry, Councilor Khizar Rehman from Oldham, Chaudhry Muhammad Bashir President Muslim Conference Britain, Raja Ghulam Farid of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Barrister Ishtiaq Ahmed and Moulana Abdul Razaq. Muslim Conference Europe President Sardar Siddiq Khan, SDM Secretary General Muhammad Azam, SDM Yorkshire Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Akram, PML-N Britain Vice President Raja Abdul Qayyum, Chairman MC Youth Wing Raja Muhammad Riaz, Chairman Friends of Kashmir Haji Ghulam Nabi, Student leader from Berry Raja Muhammad Shafiq, MC leader Raja Muhammad Tufail and huge number of political and social workers attended the conference.
The participants devised a new strategy to gear up efforts for freedom of Kashmir and expressed serious concerns over callous and cold attitude of UN over Kashmir,
The participants of Kashmir Conference have called upon to put moral and political pressure on India and Pakistan to implement the UN Resolutions to resolve long-standing Kashmir issue, so that Kashmiris, waiting for over 66 years will live as an independent nation like others.
Addressing the Kashmir Conference, the speakers reaffirmed the pledge that Right of Self Determination Movement (SDM) will continue its move to get its petition to hold debate in British and European parliaments. For the purpose the SDM will seek help and assistance from leadership of all political parties in Britain and Europe and their parliamentarians, from political leaders and civil society activists of Kashmir and Pakistan, trade union leaders and religious leadership.
Former Chairman of All Parties Kashmir Group in British Parliament Lord Nazir while addressing the conference said India and Pakistan should give a line of action to Kashmiri nation for resolution of Kashmir and ensure to implement the UN Resolutions on Kashmir.
Labour Parliamentarian from Bolton Yasmeen Qureshi said she along with Bolton West Parliamentarian Jullie Bilang is helping the leadership of SDM. “We both have signed the petition and proved our representation of Kashmir and Pakistan”, she added.
She asked SDM leadership to enhance their efforts and streamline things to attract more than 650 British Parliamentarians and go to every constituency and contact political parties across the board. Besides getting the petition signed by Kashmiris they brief the Parliamentarians to get their support to start debate on Kashmir issue, she added.
Other Kashmiri organizations and leaders should work for Kashmir cause selflessly and in spite of publishing their statements and pictures in Urdu newspapers to focus on their constituencies, Yasmeen Qureshi said.
President Trade Union Congress Muhammad Taj, a Kashmiri origin person, said he has watched the movement made by SDM and it is encouraging with regard to Kashmir issue, In few programmes what I witnessed was of course attractive regarding the solution of Kashmir issue, he added.
Candidate of Labour Party for European Parliament from North West Councilor Afzal Khan has assured Kashmiri nation full support of his party to get their rights. “I myself, my region and as Member European Parliament after election I will lobby for Kashmiri nation, as I am active along with my friends who are striving for Kashmir cause for the last two decades”, he added.
He said he has always raised voice for the rights of Kashmiri nation in his Council Constituency and in his party.
Advisor to AJK Premier Sardar Abdul Rehman Khan highlighted the UN resolutions on Kashmir and also talked about the martyrs of Kashmir who rendered sacrifices for Kashmir cause in 1947 and of those who used their efforts to highlight Kashmir issue on international level.
Earlier, in his welcome address Raja Najabat Hussain, Chairman SDM briefed the participants about last one year performance of SDM and also talked about future programmes of the Movement.
Cabinet members of Bolton Council Councilor Akhtar Zaman, Councilor Muhammad Ayub and Councilor Muhammad Iqbal have thanked the participants as hosts and organizers of Kashmir Conference while Muhammad Bashir Ratvi of Muslim Conference has appealed the UN to ensure implementation on its resolutions and to put pressure on India to stop brutalities in Kashmir.
