Pakistan acquires GS plus status in EU

BRUSSELS: After hot debate in European Parliament, Pakistan has succeeded to achieve the support of European Parliamentarians to get the GSP Plus status, which will help Pakistan entrepreneurs to take their products directly to European markets.
The GSP Plus Pakistan has obtained was due to hectic efforts and struggle by Dr Sajjad Karim and he proved to the word which is name Friends of Pakistan Group in European Parliament.
Dr Sajad Karim, a Conservative Party Parliamentarian in European Parliament, who established the Friends of Pakistan group in 2004, and will be visiting Pakistan over the coming few days to meet with high level officials.
Besides Dr Sajjad Karim, Government of Pakistan, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar and Pakistani Ambassador to European Union Munawar Saeed Bhatti play important role in getting GSP Plus status for Pakistan, which passed a positive signal to outer world that democracy is taking routes in Pakistan.
The GSP Plus scheme will be started from January 2014 and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called it European Union’s trust and confidence on Pakistani products, saying that this is a success of government’s continuous efforts.
After hectic and hot debate on this issue in European Parliament to give this scheme to Pakistan for economic stability, Pakistan secured 406 vote in favour ¬†while 182 gone against. By getting this scheme Pakistan will be able to supply products to 27 European countries, which will not only make Pakistan’s economy stable but also these exports will give over one billion dollar increase annually to country’s exports.
Pakistan will enjoy this scheme till 2017 and will be able to export 900 textile and 1600 other products to European countries without any duty to 27 European countries.
Ruling coalition-partner in Britain, Lib Dem spokesperson for European Justice and Human Rights, Sara Ludford said that Pakistan deserve easy entry to European market this is reason that her party supported this move in European Parliament. “We want to keep social and business channels of communication open and under this spirit Liberal Democratic MEPs remain on front to buy this facility for Pakistan business community”.
She said this will help generate more business and jobs in Pakistan and it sill help British and Pakistani companies to come close.
