Community enjoys book launch and musical evening at PHC London

The Pakistan High Commission London managed to celebrate new year in different way. It organized a literary gathering at its premises where the new book of Dr Safi Hasan entitled “Jinhain Panion Ki Talash Thee” was launched.

The book launch was followed by a musical evening with renowned Pakistani singer Humaira Channa.

Dr Safi Hasan, a scientist by profession, is a celebrated Urdu poet of Pakistan, now settled in Birmingham. This is Dr Hasan’s 5th book of Urdu poetry.

Dr Hasan, in his introductory remarks at the occasion, shed light on his poetic journey and development of thought over last several decades. He recited some of the most representative ghazals from his book and every one enjoyed them.

Pakistan High Commissioner for UK Mr Wajid Shamsul Hasan, in his welcome remarks, paid a glowing tribute to the literary achievements of Dr Safi Hasan. He said that varied themes presented by Dr Safi Hasan through his poetry were refreshing as well as enlightening and that he was doing a great service to Urdu language and literature.

Durdana Ansari OBE also recited a beautiful ghazal by Dr Hasan in her melodious voice to the delight of the audience. Dr Hasan has been sung by renowned singers like Ghulam Ali, Abida Perveen, Hari Haran, Humaira Channa, Shabnam Majeed, Gulfam Sabri and Dr Amjad Pervaiz.

Channa mesmerized the audience with her beautiful performance. She sang several songs and ghazals of Dr Safi Hasan, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Ahmad Faraz, and others and received a standing ovation from the avid music lovers present at the evening.

Besides Deputy High Commissioner Muhammad Imran Mirza and officers of the High Commission and their spouses, the event was attended by a large number of British Pakistanis and representatives of media. Counsellor Syed Shozab Abbas moderated the event.
