TTP announces one month ceasefire

ISLAMABAD: Hopes raised very high as ice breaking news came regarding the one month unconditional cease-fire announcement by defunct Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a conglomerate of militant groups in tribal areas of Pakistan.

Shahidullah Shahid, the Spokesman of TTP confirmed the news saying the TTP have commanded all the groups affiliated with the umbrella to respect the ceasefire for one month. The Government has responded positively to TTP’s recommendations and have assured to implementation these recommendations provided by TTP.

The TTP has declared a one-month unilateral ceasefire. “We want to give peace a chance so all the groups under the umbrella of TTP will stop every sort of activities for one month, during which we will observe the Government attitude”, he added.

The Decision regarding the cease-fire was endorsed by Majlis e Shura, TTP’s central executive political for one month and after watching the government attitude further strategy will be evolved.

“We have directed all the affiliated groups to stop their activities during the ceasefire,” he said, and warned that strict action would be taken if any group was found guilty of violating the decision. The government is yet to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, member of Taliban Committee Yousuf Shah confirmed the reports regarding the announcement of cease-fire by TTP saying breaking of the ice is a positive development and it will help move forward for peace. But the Government committee member Irfan Siddiqui told media that they have not received official reports of the development yet and that their source for now is the media. “We welcome this development as a positive gesture by TTP as it will be a move as step in the right direction.

Talks with Taliban were halted last month following their claiming responsibility of killing 23 rangers.

According to the reports, Taliban and government committees will meet in next two days.
