Defence Day of Pakistan observed at the PHC London

London-The Defence Day of Pakistan was observed with traditional zeal at the Pakistan High Commission, London 06 September 2016. The reception, in this regard, was attended by a large number of Diplomats, Defence Attachés, representatives of the UK’s Defence Ministry, Pakistani community, media representatives and think
tanks notables.

Dr Israr Hussain, Acting High Commissioner, in his address on the occasion, highlighted the significance of the day and paid rich tributes to the Defence
Forces for safeguarding the sovereignty of Pakistan against external aggression on 6 September 1965. He said: “It was nation’s finest hour. The people and the
Armed Forces stood united, fought gallantly, and many laid down their lives to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their motherland. The
unprecedented national unity demonstrated by the people and the Armed Forces has made it a unique and memorable day in our national calendar.”

On the issue of internal security, Dr Hussain stated: “Pakistan’s National Action Plan (NAP) has been a concerted effort to deal with the issue of terrorism and extremism. The Operation Zarb-e-Azb is going on successfully and is near completion. However a comprehensive response at the global level is required to address the root causes of terrorism. The recent attacks in Europe have once again underlined the need for a concerted approach towards this challenge.”
